Saros: Zenith Update Slows the Bullet Hell and Adds a Crown-Driven New Game+

Housemarque has shipped the Saros: Zenith update, a free download for every owner of its PlayStation 5 bullet-hell shooter. The update pushes in two directions at once: it lowers the barrier to entry without lowering the skill ceiling, and it layers a new endgame on top of the existing combat loop.

Slowing time instead of cutting bullets

The accessibility work rests on a deliberate design bet. Instead of reducing the number of projectiles, the new Slow Game Speed option leaves every attack intact and slows the clock. Players choose how much the game decelerates and whether it triggers automatically in combat or only when toggled manually, creating more time to read attack telegraphs and decide between jumping, dashing, shielding, or parrying. Auto-fire removes a button press while aiming, but a perfect reload still demands a well-timed input, so the setting widens access without erasing skill expression. Motion Sensor Aiming joins the existing button-remapping options.

Twenty modifiers, two directions

Twenty new Carcosan Modifiers split the difficulty both ways. Ten Protection Modifiers soften specific mechanics: Corruption Melee Enhancement turns the Corruption that normally eats away at maximum Integrity into bonus damage on a melee strike. Ten Trial Modifiers push the other way, and Hostile Regeneration forces players to rush in and finish a stunned enemy with a melee hit before it recovers. The result treats attack volume and reaction time as separate problems a player can tune independently.

A crown for the risk-takers

Eclipse Layers is the New Game+ system. After clearing Saros, new nodes appear in the Armor Matrix at Passage and gate entry to progressively more intense versions of Carcosa with altered rules. Each layer begins with a mandatory Carcosan Modifier loadout drawn from 25 Trial options, and the combination a player commits to shapes the whole run. The risk is made visible: Arjun dons a Crown that grows more elaborate as Trial Modifiers stack, and higher Crown levels reveal more of the 12 Visions, stone murals that hold hidden story text.

A timed boss rush

Overlord Rush adds a boss-rush mode reached from the Primary Unit at Passage, with online leaderboards that can be filtered by main weapon. The Incursion and Ascension sets each pit players against three Overlords in roughly ten minutes, while Totality lines up all eight Overlords in one continuous gauntlet.

Housemarque has not published a trophy list for the update, and it has not said whether Eclipse Layer rules, modifier thresholds, or leaderboards will be rebalanced later, leaving the new endgame open to further tuning.
