The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Remastered is more than a visual update. CD Projekt Red’s published change list describes a rebuilt skill tree, revised movement and combat behavior, new equipment customization, broader Photo Mode controls and platform-specific upgrades. The free update was scheduled for September 29 on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2.
Skill points reset under the new progression system
The revised skill tree organizes abilities around prerequisites and gives each skill three ranks. Because the progression structure changed, existing skill points are reset when the update is installed. Players returning to an established save should expect to rebuild their allocation before continuing.
Equipment gains a separate appearance system called Reforging. Yoana and Hattori can change how weapons and armor look without changing their statistics, while new gear and crafting diagrams unlock additional appearances. The developer says dyes from Blood and Wine carry over to reforged equipment.
Combat and traversal also receive targeted changes. CD Projekt Red lists new finishers, improved climbing and vaulting, revised target switching, polished monster behavior and updated animations for Geralt and Roach. These notes describe design changes, not measured performance, so results may still vary by platform and hardware.
Photo Mode, accessibility and mod support broaden
Photo Mode adds placeable characters and props, poses, lighting controls, camera presets, weather and time-of-day settings, first-person framing and selectable aspect ratios. A new Bard’s Ballad accessibility preset can reduce cognitive load through options such as vitality regeneration, unlimited durability, infinite breath and simplified Witcher Sense controls.
Cross-platform mod support arrives through mod.io, with browsing and installation available from the game’s Mods menu after connecting a CD Projekt Red account. PC-specific additions include path tracing, DLSS 4.5, FSR 4 and XeSS 2.0 support, although available features depend on compatible graphics hardware.
Console versions receive different upgrades
PlayStation 5 gains multithreaded rendering, while PS5 Pro adds PSSR support, variable refresh rate options and revised graphics modes. Nintendo Switch 2 receives handheld, controller, motion-control and mouse-sensor play styles, plus touch input in menus, dialogue, the map, Gwent and Photo Mode. The official notes also list Xbox Play Anywhere support.
The update changes the PC system requirements, so PC players should compare the new table on the official page before installing. The same document is the authoritative reference for the complete fix list and platform exceptions.
