Nintendo has confirmed the launch details for Nintendo Switch Sports Resort, a follow-up to Nintendo Switch Sports that turns the sports collection into a full island getaway. The game arrives October 22, 2026 as a Switch 2 exclusive priced at $49.99, and it will not run on the original Switch.
The package centers on 12 motion-control sports: Tennis, Bowling, Archery, Boxing, Volleyball, Table Tennis, Basketball, Golf, Thumb Wrestling, Prop Plane, Skateboarding, and Power Cruising. Nintendo frames the lineup as a mix of returning classics and new additions, with the three vehicle-based events – Prop Plane, Skateboarding, and Power Cruising – tying into the Spocco Resort setting on Wuhu Island. The island can be explored by land, sea, and air, which is the clearest structural change from the tighter, menu-driven original.
For same-room play, up to four people can compete offline on a single Switch 2 system, with no online connection or membership required. Online, Nintendo splits the options three ways: Casual Online Play offers nine sports in relaxed matches worldwide and carries an explicit Nintendo Switch Online membership requirement; Pro League is ranked matchmaking against similarly skilled players; and Friend Lobby hosts private games for up to eight players with a two-per-system limit. Nintendo’s materials do not state which three of the 12 sports are left out of the nine-sport online selection.
Solo players get a new single-player-focused mode called Island Crown, where they climb a ranking ladder by challenging Island Champions and Legends – including a Mii character named Matt – across nine sports, earning Spocco Points and customization rewards. A separate Sightseeing Tour sends players across Wuhu Island to complete challenges and collect Spocco Photos. Nintendo does not list a membership requirement for either mode.
Character customization returns with the choice to play as a Sportsmate or a Mii, plus options for hairstyles, outfits, accessories, and body types, with unlockable items arriving through weekly and monthly collections. A GameChat feature is described as a way to banter, cheer, and explore the island together, though Nintendo has not detailed its controls, supported modes, or availability.
The announcement leaves a few practical questions open. Nintendo has not confirmed a physical edition, a specific launch time, or any post-launch sports, and the store lists a digital edition alongside a bundle whose contents are not spelled out. For players still on the original Switch, the exclusivity means the $49.99 price effectively sits on top of a Switch 2 purchase. Launch celebrations run October 24 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Nintendo NEW YORK and Nintendo SAN FRANCISCO, with select sports playable and a giveaway while supplies last.
