Kena: Scars of Kosmora will launch in 2027 rather than its previously announced 2026 window. Ember Lab says the additional development time will be used to polish a game that is larger in scale than Kena: Bridge of Spirits.
The studio still describes the sequel as a character-led, linear adventure. Its wider environments will include optional routes, but Ember Lab has not presented it as an open-world game. The delay announcement also confirms a physical and digital release on PlayStation 5 and a digital PC release.
Kena’s next journey is personal
The story sends Kena to the island of Kosmora after her childhood friend Orfio suggests it may hold answers they both need. Although Kena has experience helping troubled spirits, the sequel turns her attention toward the living and toward pain she has not addressed herself.
Kosmora once supported four connected cultures, each associated with a guiding element. One was destroyed in a cataclysm, while the surviving cultures developed their own histories and values. Ember Lab says the consequences of that past will shape the people Kena meets across the island.
Temples connect exploration and progression
The island’s ancient Spirit Guides used the four elements through structures called Alchemystic Temples. These areas are designed as dungeons that test player skills and provide rewards tied to Kena’s progress. The studio has not yet detailed those rewards, so it is too early to treat them as a confirmed equipment or ability system.
That distinction matters because the official overview focuses on the temples’ role in the adventure rather than listing a complete progression model. It establishes that exploration can lead away from the main route, but it does not specify how large those detours will be or how many temples the final game contains.
A companion built into travel and combat
Kena’s crystalline canine companion is more than a mount. Ember Lab says the spirit will assist in mounted and on-foot combat, help solve Alchemystic puzzles and connect directly to the island’s origin. The companion gives the studio a way to support faster movement across the larger setting without separating traversal from the story.
The 2027 window is the only release timing currently confirmed. No specific date has been announced. Players can wishlist the game now, but the official post does not list a price or PC storefront.
