CD Projekt RED has announced a free update for Cyberpunk 2077, the Edgerunners 2 Update in version 2.5, arriving October 22. The studio is holding back the full contents for a showcase the day before, but two features are already on the record: cyberware customization and a new dual-wielding playstyle.
The release is timed to Cyberpunk: Edgerunners season 2, which returns to Netflix today. CD Projekt described the update as inspired by the anime, turning the window into a second launch moment for a game that first shipped in December 2020.
The remaining details arrive October 21 at 5 PM CEST during a special REDstreams broadcast, streaming on Twitch, YouTube, and Steam, with patch notes scheduled for the same day. IGN reports the update will reach PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, with a Nintendo Switch 2 version to follow shortly. Beyond the two named features, the studio has only promised “more.”
The announcement stands out because it runs against CD Projekt’s position from May, when the company said it had “no plans” for further Cyberpunk 2077 DLC or expansions. A numbered release that introduces new systems, rather than a small cosmetic pass, is a meaningful change of direction, even if its depth is still unproven.
The game also has a long track record of slow, substantial support. Since its December 2020 launch, Cyberpunk 2077 has received one paid expansion, 2023’s Phantom Liberty, alongside a steady run of free patches. CD Projekt reported in July that the game had passed 40 million copies sold, up 5 million from November 2025.
The studio has also stoked anticipation directly. Paweł Sasko, associate game director on the in-development Cyberpunk 2, teased the update on social media, telling fans he was excited about what the team has prepared. A direct teaser paired with a dedicated showcase signals that CD Projekt wants this update treated as an event rather than routine maintenance.
For now, cyberware customization and dual-wielding are teasers, not a changelog. Whether version 2.5 carries additional quests, balance changes, or platform-specific fixes will only be clear once the patch notes and the REDstreams are public on October 21.
