Dragon’s Dogma 2: Dark Arisen is available as a paid expansion, but installing it does not place a new destination on the title screen. Access runs through Captain Brant in Vernworth, and the route depends on whether the current save is still in the normal world or has reached the Unmoored World.
Check the purchase and installation first
Capcom released the expansion on October 9, 2026. The Steam edition is DLC and requires the base game. Steam also warns that some bundles contain overlapping products, so PC players should check the contents before buying. The store page recommends updating the base game to the current patch when required.
Before loading a save, confirm that the expansion belongs to the same platform account and region as the installed base game. On PC, Steam should show the DLC as owned. PlayStation and Xbox players should check the corresponding account’s add-on library. If the new dialogue does not appear later, an ownership, installation or patch mismatch is the first thing to rule out.
Start from a normal-world save
For a save that has not entered the Unmoored World, travel to Vernworth and wait until night. Visit The Stardrop Inn and speak with Captain Brant. PC Gamer’s launch-day walkthrough identifies two new dialogue options. “About the new Arisen…” starts the Chilling Tidings quest and leads toward Norgan. “About the uncovered ruins…” begins the Lost Rites quest for the new dungeon challenges.
- Own and install the expansion on the account that owns or runs the base game.
- Update Dragon’s Dogma 2 if the platform offers a newer patch.
- Load a save in the normal world and travel to Vernworth.
- Go to The Stardrop Inn at night.
- Speak with Captain Brant and choose the dialogue for the activity you want to begin.
The walkthrough recommends level 40 for the expansion, but describes that figure as guidance rather than an access requirement. The Lost Rites dungeons also vary in difficulty. Reaching Brant at a lower level may open the quest without making every encounter practical for that character.
Unmoored World saves need New Game+
A save already in the Unmoored World cannot use the normal Brant route. According to the same walkthrough, that character must begin New Game+ before the expansion becomes accessible. New Game+ carries the character’s level, equipment and ordinary items into the next cycle, while quest progress and quest items reset.
Finish any Unmoored World objectives you want to keep before making that change. Starting another cycle to reach the expansion can close off unfinished quests from the current one. Once the new cycle reaches Vernworth, return to The Stardrop Inn at night and use Brant’s new dialogue.
What each entry route opens
Capcom describes Forsaken Dominion as a new story set in the snowy region of Norgan. The Arisen joins Eir to investigate the undying Fallen Dragon, appraise relics and obtain new weapons and skills. Lost Rites is separate content placed across the main game’s existing world, with 12 dungeons containing equipment and Pathfinder trials. The expansion also adds hairstyles and tattoos for the Arisen and Pawns.
The two quest prompts lead to different parts of the add-on. Chilling Tidings is the route toward the new northern story, while Lost Rites opens the dungeon thread in the original map. Players who want both should check both Brant dialogue options instead of treating the first prompt as the entire expansion.
If neither dialogue option appears on a normal-world save, check the time of day, confirm that Captain Brant is available at the inn, restart the game after verifying the DLC installation, and check for an update. Do not move an Unmoored World save into New Game+ only as a troubleshooting test. That transition resets quest progress, while a missing add-on entitlement or outdated installation can be checked without changing the save.
