ZeniMax Online Studios plans to release a native Apple Silicon client for The Elder Scrolls Online in summer 2027. Game director Nick Giacomini announced the project as Apple prepares to remove support for Intel binaries in a future macOS release.
The current Mac version of ESO depends on that Intel compatibility layer. ZeniMax says the new client will run natively on ARM-based Macs, making Apple Silicon an officially supported platform rather than relying on translation of the existing Intel build.
The 2027 window is broad, not a firm date
The announcement gives only a summer 2027 target. It does not specify a launch day, supported chip list or expected performance figures. ZeniMax says it intends to add performance optimizations that use Apple Silicon’s capabilities, but it has not published benchmarks or detailed technical requirements.
Mac players should therefore treat the announcement as a platform roadmap, not a compatibility guarantee for every current machine. The studio expects to revise ESO’s minimum Mac requirements when the native client ships.
Intel Mac support will narrow over time
The newest Intel Macs will remain supported for now. ZeniMax will assess whether some older Intel models should lose official support as the Apple Silicon release approaches, and the studio says Intel Macs will eventually be phased out entirely.
No cutoff date or affected-model list has been announced. Until those details arrive, owners of Intel hardware should avoid assuming that the summer 2027 client launch is itself the end of support. The official statement describes a staged transition, with a requirements review preceding a later full phaseout.
What Mac players can verify now
The confirmed points are limited but useful: a native ARM client is in development, Apple Silicon will become an officially supported platform, and the current target is summer 2027. Updated minimum requirements are also expected at release.
Details about testing, migration and installation remain open. ZeniMax has not said whether there will be a public beta, whether the client will require a separate download, or which Apple Silicon generation will set the minimum. Players considering hardware changes should wait for the revised requirements instead of treating today’s Macs as automatically qualified.
