Deadlock has received its City Never Sleeps update, a broad revision of the early-development multiplayer game rather than a narrowly focused balance patch. Valve says the release changes the look of the Cursed Apple, updates neutral units and introduces six playable heroes alongside interface, accessibility and quality-of-life work.
The city is part of the update
The visual work reaches across the map, giving several districts a more distinct identity. Valve’s official update page shows revised spaces including Times Square, Central Park, Broadway, Chinatown and the Stock Exchange. These changes matter beyond decoration: clearer landmarks and stronger differences between districts can help players identify where a fight is moving in a game built around lanes, rooftops and rapid rotations.
Neutral units have also been redesigned. Valve presents the map and neutral changes together, making this a refresh of the spaces and characters players repeatedly read during a match. The update’s official materials also document HUD changes, communication tools, subtitle options and other accessibility settings.
Six heroes arrive at once
The new roster additions are Baba, Deadman Danny, Nurse Harrow, Rat King, Solomon and Violet. Releasing six characters in one update gives the test population a large set of abilities and matchups to evaluate at the same time. Because Deadlock remains in development, the practical result is a wider pool of live feedback rather than a finished roster.
Valve outlines what comes later
Valve used the announcement to separate current work from ideas that are still being tested. Progression and hero or hideout customization are being developed early enough to change in response to feedback. Larger item redesigns and alternate modes are more tentative; Valve says those may not ship if playtesting does not support them.
Other work is described more directly. The studio plans to focus on the Midboss, Guardians and Walkers in upcoming updates, while hero remodels will be handled gradually. That distinction is useful for players following the project: City Never Sleeps is live, but the accompanying development notes are not a promise that every experiment will reach a public build.
