Glyph Worlds released an update for War Selection on October 17, 2026, adding a building-free Arena mode, a redesigned main menu, and new selection and social shortcuts to the free-to-play real-time strategy game in Steam Early Access. The patch also carries one balance change and a batch of crash fixes.
A battle format without an economy
Arena mode removes the base-building and age-advancement loop that anchors War Selection’s standard matches. Every player enters an Arena battle with an identical, randomly composed army of land units, and nothing is built or developed during the round. The last player standing wins, so each match turns on unit control and tactics rather than build order and resource management. The mode is available in both matchmaking and private games, and it offers a deliberately different rhythm from the base-and-ages progression the game shares with other historical real-time strategy titles.
Menu, selection, and social tools
The main menu has been redesigned to separate single-player and multiplayer sections, give its windows a fresh look, and add smoother transitions. Private match rooms now include participant chat, and Steam invitations let friends join a squad or a private match directly. Unit selection gains two shortcuts: Alt plus left-click on a unit on the map, or on its icon in the interface, selects every unit of that type across the map, while Shift plus Alt plus left-click adds them to the current selection.
Glyph Worlds also added automatic restrictions on team-match access for accounts that repeatedly leave games in ways that harm their allies. A warning appears before a team-match search if another such departure could trigger a restriction. The update likewise improves interface rendering performance.
Balance and stability
The only balance change in this patch targets the Eastern Asia Springald. Damage it takes from bullets and arrows is reduced from 100% to 60%, applied before armor is subtracted, making the unit more durable against those attack types.
The update also addresses a set of crashes and interface bugs. Fixes cover crashes during unit transformation and pathfinding, visual effects that could appear outside map boundaries, and a Windows hang on exit. Fog-of-war, match-history loading, chat reconnection, and F1 statistics overlap issues were corrected as well.
