Tactical shooter Squad is heading to consoles. Developer Offworld Industries, working with publisher partner Secret Mode, has confirmed the military multiplayer game is coming to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S, and PlayStation owners can try it before the end of the month.

A free PS5 alpha this month

The studio is running a free alpha preview on PS5 from October 16 through October 25. It is open to everyone who signs up, and it centers on a single map: players join either the Armed Forces of Ukraine or the People’s Liberation Army in a fight for the rail line running through Gorodok.

While the alpha is live, every Steam owner of Squad can also claim the Recon Team Pack at no cost, a set of five woodland weapon skins for the USMC faction, up until October 25.

What the console version includes

Offworld has framed the console release as part of “One Squad,” a shared roadmap across PC and console. Console PvP matches will support up to 100 players, the same 50-versus-50 scale as the PC version, alongside a five-player Fireteam co-op mode. The studio’s performance targets are 4K at 60 fps on PS5 and Xbox Series X, and 1440p at 30 fps on Xbox Series S.

The console build adds a redesigned control scheme and aim assist while keeping the core gunplay intact. Crossplay between PlayStation and Xbox will be opt-in on official servers, and Offworld says there is no cross-progression or carry-over of cosmetics between platforms.

The console launch will ship the AAS, RAAS, Invasion, and Fireteam modes, with maps including Al Basrah, Fallujah, Mutaha, Narva, Yehorivka, and Gorodok, and factions spanning the US Army, US Marines, PLA, Ukrainian forces, and several others. Offworld plans to keep major updates aligned across PC and console after launch.

Still no firm date

Offworld has not announced an exact launch date, but its alpha sign-up page points to a 2027 release window. The studio says the move to console required engine work, including a shift to Unreal Engine 5, that it expects to benefit the PC version too.
