Focus Entertainment has settled months of community speculation by confirming the next playable class for Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine 2 and outlining the game’s Year 3 roadmap in a new community update.
The Apothecary joins the ranks
The long-teased class is the Apothecary, and it will arrive with Patch 17 in the first quarter of 2027. The studio had asked players to guess what was coming, and it acknowledged that most of those theories pointed in the right direction. “We’ve been following all your speculations ever since we teased the arrival of a new class, and you certainly had plenty of theories… and the majority of you were right!” the update reads.
The Apothecary will receive a Champion skin in the update after its release, the same cadence the studio used for the Techmarine. Focus is withholding the rest of the class’s details for now and has promised more information closer to launch.
What the Year 3 roadmap holds
The roadmap splits the studio’s plans between the rest of 2026 and 2027. Patch 15, the second-anniversary update, arrives on October 1 and is followed by Patch 16 before the year ends. Together they add the Chaos Siege mode, which lets players fight as Heretic Astartes previously limited to PvP, and a new PvP mode built around Weekly Stratagems. The updates also introduce the Crucible mode with its Lamenters armour set and optional Penance debuffs, the One-Handed Thunder Hammer, three heroic weapons, new armour pieces, a rework of the Tactical class, and a third Wargear slot.
Looking further out, 2027 brings new Operations and weapons alongside reworks to several core gameplay systems. Year 3 also adds five new Cosmetic and Champion Packs, though the studio has left the final pack redacted as a teaser.
What to keep in mind
Roadmap details are a plan rather than a promise. Focus has not shared the Apothecary’s weapons, abilities, or exact Patch 17 date, and the studio has said it will disclose more later. Players should treat the 2027 items and the still-redacted DLC pack as subject to change until they appear in patch notes. Space Marine 2 is available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
