Scream Fortress XVIII Adds Five Maps and Resets TF2 Halloween Contracts

Team Fortress 2 players fighting during a match

Team Fortress 2 has opened Scream Fortress XVIII, its 2026 Halloween event. Valve’s October 1 update adds five community-made maps, refreshes the seasonal contract track and makes this year’s Halloween content available through November 7.

Five maps join the Special Events queue

The new map list is HolyHell, Scarypass, Trainsawlaser, Medi-Evil and Scaredy-Cat. Players can reach the Halloween rotation through the Special Events category in Casual. The update also changes several older maps, including fixes for Helltower, Sawmill, 2Fort, Dustbowl and Well.

Valve reset all Halloween Contracts, allowing returning players to complete them again. It also added contracts for the five featured community maps. Completing one awards a classic Halloween item and can also provide a Haunted Hoard Case.

The item pool is seasonal, not permanent

The Haunted Hoard Case contains 23 community-created cosmetics and may include a taunt Unusualifier as a bonus. Five community taunts entered the Mann Co. Store, while the effect pool gained 21 community-made Unusual effects: 11 for hats and 10 for taunts.

During the event, cosmetic and taunt cases use the Halloween 2026 Unusual effects instead of their normal pools. Valve specifically excludes crates from that rule. That distinction matters for anyone deciding what to open during the event window.

Launching the game grants a Soul Gargoyle to players who do not already have one. The item unlocks Merasmissions and Halloween item transmutations while tracking completed missions and collected souls.

The patch reaches beyond event content

The update also includes a substantial repair list. Valve credits community contributors for several fixes, including a crash tied to a missing HUDAutoAim element, a TFBot crash involving moving control points and an invalid Soul Gargoyle location on Helltower. Other changes address weapon effects, cosmetics, map collision and Zombie Infection behavior.

Scream Fortress XVIII is available now in the PC version of Team Fortress 2. The event ends November 7, but Valve’s notes do not specify an exact closing time. Players planning contract runs should treat the published date as the firm boundary and avoid assuming an extra day in their region.
