Forest of Deceit Adds Per-Player Language Settings on Xbox and PC

Forest of Deceit players gather around a campfire in the forest

Forest of Deceit has added German, French, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, Simplified Chinese and Italian in a free localization update. The new options are available on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One and Windows PC, where the game also supports Xbox Play Anywhere.

Language settings work at the controller level

The update is more specific than a single language switch for the whole session. Each participant uses a phone, tablet or computer as a web controller, and that controller can use its own language. A group can therefore keep the shared game display in English while one player reads the controls in Italian or another supported language.

That choice fits the game’s four-to-eight-player setup. Forest of Deceit is built around discussion: Innocents collect resources for a shelter, while Traitors try to obstruct the group without being identified. Misreading a button or decision can look like deliberate sabotage, so clear instructions affect more than menu convenience.

The update responds to player requests

In an Xbox Wire post, the developers said localization had been one of the most frequent questions after release. They worked with translators because small differences in wording can alter how a social-deduction decision is understood. The update does not change the game’s rules; it changes how those rules and choices are presented.

The game supports local sessions and online play through screen sharing. Controller-level language selection is useful in both cases, particularly for families or friend groups that do not share one preferred language. It avoids forcing the entire lobby to change its display for a single participant.

What players should expect

The six-language release expands access rather than adding a new mode or progression system. The core loop remains gathering resources, discussing each day’s results and voting to remove suspected Traitors before the storm arrives.

Ghost Camp’s official account also makes the scope clear: localization requires time and money, but the team considered it important for a game whose mechanics depend on conversation. Players interested in the update should expect the same social-deduction game with more flexible language support, not a broader content expansion.
