Chessington World of Adventures has detailed two major parts of its Minecraft World expansion: a Nether-themed rollercoaster and an overnight hotel. The new land is scheduled to open at the Greater London resort in 2027, although Chessington has not announced an exact opening date.
A physical version of Minecraft’s Overworld
Merlin Entertainments and Mojang Studios first announced Minecraft World as a £50 million project. The companies describe it as the first fully immersive theme park land based on the game. Plans extend beyond rides, with interactive activities, block-built play areas, themed dining and retail also included in the development.
The resort’s dedicated page says the land will draw on Minecraft’s Overworld, including caves, mineshafts, plains and familiar mobs. That makes the project a broader themed area rather than a single licensed attraction. The public information remains an early outline, however, and details such as a full attraction list and opening day are still pending.
Escape the Nether moves indoors and outdoors
The headline ride is Escape the Nether, which Chessington calls the first Minecraft rollercoaster. Its story puts visitors in a minecart with Steve and Alex, moving through the Nether before returning to the Overworld. The attraction is planned to include both indoor and outdoor sections.
Chessington has not published the coaster’s height requirement or technical specifications. Those details are expected closer to opening, so comparisons with the resort’s existing rides would be premature.
The hotel continues the theme overnight
Minecraft World Hotel is being presented as the first hotel dedicated to Minecraft. Current plans mention bedrooms based on the game, mineshaft-style corridors, recreated biomes and an underwater-themed restaurant. The hotel cannot be booked yet, and room types, prices and an opening schedule have not been released.
The practical takeaway is that 2027 is a target year, not a complete booking plan. Prospective visitors can join Chessington’s update list, but transport, ticket and hotel decisions will need to wait until the resort publishes dates and operating details. The confirmed scope is substantial: a themed land, a signature coaster and accommodation developed under the same Minecraft partnership.
