A Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War 4 gameplay video puts two developers on the same side against Hard AI Orks. Creative director Jan Theysen and senior game designer Elliott Verbiest play Space Marines in a 2v2 Team Skirmish PvE setup. According to IGN’s account, the first match ends in defeat after a little more than four minutes. Raising the Victory Point target stretches the rematch to about 13 minutes, but the developers surrender after falling behind on points and resources.

What the losses show

The useful part of the demonstration is the pressure pattern. The Orks keep attacking while contesting objectives, forcing both players to replace units and respond across the map. Auto reinforce does not solve the resource shortage once the Space Marine side loses enough control. By the second match’s closing minutes, the developers lack the economy needed to assemble a response force.

The footage also gives prospective co-op players a practical question to watch in later previews: how much coordination does Hard difficulty expect? Two human players sharing a team still need to divide map coverage, protect income, and decide when an objective is no longer worth the cost. A cooperative mode can punish duplicated effort if both armies chase the same immediate threat.

What the video cannot settle

Two developer defeats do not prove that Hard mode is overtuned. The matches are a narrow sample, the players acknowledge their own mistakes, and the game can change before release. The result does establish that this version of the AI can exploit a weak opening and turn map control into a quick win. It also shows a match ending through surrender rather than a staged comeback.

Players comparing difficulty modes should wait for final settings, release code, and a larger range of factions and maps. A single showcase cannot measure campaign balance or long-term skirmish variety. It can, however, reveal the intended tone: Hard AI is willing to attack early, maintain pressure, and deny recovery when a team loses resources.

Release context

IGN lists Dawn of War 4 for PC with a December 3, 2026 release date. The official Dawn of War site remains the franchise’s first-party home. Platform details, modes, and release timing should be checked again there or on the game’s storefront before purchase, since preview footage reflects a work in progress.
