Apex Legends Hotfix Stops Steam Settings Resets and Weakens Fast Draw

Apex Legends gameplay from the official Steam media gallery

Respawn has released a focused Apex Legends update for Steam players and the Apex KO rule set. The October 2 hotfix fixes a problem that erased some PC settings after every relaunch, then reduces both speed bonuses attached to the Fast Draw Wild Card.

Steam settings should now persist between launches

The official patch notice says the reset affected Steam users with unusual folder structures or Apex Legends installation locations. Respawn observed the problem most often among players in the Asia-Pacific region. After the update, those affected players should no longer need to restore their preferences each time they start the game.

This is a fix for saved settings rather than a broad PC performance patch. The notice does not list changes to frame rate, matchmaking, anti-cheat behavior, or other platforms, so players troubleshooting unrelated issues should not assume this hotfix addresses them.

Fast Draw now provides two smaller time reductions

The balance portion applies to Fast Draw, a Wild Card used in Apex KO. Its reload-time reduction drops from 35 percent to 25 percent. Its consumable-use-time reduction falls more sharply, from 50 percent to 25 percent.

Both adjustments make the card less effective without removing either benefit. Reloading and using consumables still take less time with Fast Draw equipped, but the advantage is now the same 25 percent for both actions. Players who relied on the previous 50 percent consumable bonus will feel the larger change.

A narrow update with clear boundaries

Respawn’s notice contains one bug fix and two numerical balance changes. It does not announce a new mode, alter the wider weapon roster, or describe additional Legend tuning. That limited scope matters: the Steam settings repair and Fast Draw reductions are the complete published change list for this update, not a summary of a larger seasonal patch.

Steam players should allow the client to download the update before checking whether their settings survive a full restart. For Apex KO players, the practical adjustment is straightforward: Fast Draw remains useful for quicker reloads and consumables, but its two bonuses are now equal and the consumable benefit is half its previous value.
