Blizzard has detailed Battle for the Darkspear Islands, a 15v15 battleground for level 30-60 players in World of Warcraft: Forever. The map sends the Horde’s Darkspear Raiders and the Alliance’s Theramore Expeditionary Force to islands off the coast of Dustwallow Marsh.
The match has two connected objectives rather than a single capture format. Each team can hold four control points, which generate points faster as more of them come under that team’s control. A flag in the center offers another scoring route: carrying it to a base already held by the carrier’s team adds points. The first side to reach 2,000 wins.
Control points shape the flag route
The rules make base ownership useful in two ways. Control points supply a continuing score and provide destinations for the flag. A team that retrieves the flag still needs a captured base where it can be delivered, while opponents can contest both the carrier and the available destination.
Blizzard has not published match-length estimates, scoring values for each objective or balance data from live play. Those details cannot be inferred from the map overview. The announcement establishes the format and victory condition, but not whether holding more ground or running the flag will be the faster strategy in practice.
Players can queue from cities or faction bases
Battlemasters in major capital cities provide one route into the battleground. Players can also travel to faction camps in the Barrens: the Darkspear Raiders are based at Merchant Coast, while the Theramore Expeditionary Force operates from Northwatch. Portals at those camps lead into the battle.
Both camps include vendors and battleground quests. Each faction has a separate reputation track with gear and consumables at different thresholds, including trinkets, rings, cloaks, weapons and armor. Marks of Honor can be turned in for reputation quests. Reaching Exalted opens a short questline for that faction’s tabard.
What Blizzard has confirmed
The official announcement confirms the map size, level range, objectives, queue locations and reward structure. It does not give a launch date in the article or say how rewards compare with other battlegrounds. Players planning around the mode should therefore treat those points as unannounced until Blizzard supplies further details.
