The Witcher 3 Remastered Clip Puts Reflections and Fog Under Scrutiny

CD Projekt published a side-by-side clip for The Witcher 3 Remastered on September 23, showing Geralt using Igni against drowners in a swamp. The short comparison gives viewers a look at revised armor, water and fog before the remaster’s scheduled September 29 release.

The official post offers the footage but no technical breakdown. That leaves a narrow clip carrying more interpretive weight than it can settle. A change that looks weaker in one camera angle may behave differently across another time of day, weather state or scene.

What viewers are comparing

IGN reports that some fans preferred the original shot’s orange fire reflection and more defined low fog. The outlet also observed greater armor detail and more defined water in the remastered side of the clip. The dispute centers on presentation, not a measured performance test or a full review build.

Ray tracing does not guarantee that every reflective surface will mirror every light source in the way a viewer expects. Materials, roughness values, indirect lighting and artistic choices all shape the final image. A compressed social video can also hide fine detail and introduce artifacts, so still frames from the post are poor evidence for broader claims about image quality.

Questions the clip cannot answer

The comparison does not establish console frame-rate targets, graphics modes, resolution, ray-tracing settings or whether the footage comes from matching hardware. It also does not show how the revised scene looks during normal exploration. Players should wait for direct capture and settings information before treating this sequence as representative of the full update.

IGN says PC users should be able to return to an earlier build if they dislike the new presentation, while the availability of a comparable option on consoles was unclear in its report. Save data is expected to carry into the remaster. Console owners who want to preserve the current installation can disable automatic updates while waiting for fuller technical coverage.

For now, the official clip confirms a visible lighting and material revision. Whether those changes improve the game depends on more than one swamp encounter, and the strongest comparison will come from matched scenes captured from release code.
