Frostrail’s Steam Next Fest demo runs from October 19 to 26 and puts a survival shooter’s home on rails. Your shelter is a steam train that burns fuel, draws power, and has to keep moving to stay safe. Developer FakeFish and publisher Shiro Unlimited describe it as a first-person survival FPS you can play solo or in co-op with up to four players.
What the demo includes
The free demo hands you the train and a frozen, corrupted stretch of world. You operate the train, explore abandoned towns, and gather resources to craft equipment, food, and weapons. Revenants haunt those towns and will hunt you down, so a supply run is never a safe errand. FakeFish calls the build a sample of the full game rather than the whole thing, and it asks players to fill out a survey after they finish. The developer says it will use that feedback to tune combat, crafting, and train handling ahead of Early Access.
A base that has to keep moving
Most survival games send you back to a fixed shelter. Frostrail makes the base the thing you have to keep running. The Steam store page describes fueling the Eden Engine, managing its power, and expanding the train with new carriages, crafting stations, storage, and weapon positions. The trade-off is concrete: a train that cannot be powered is no longer a sanctuary, and the materials you need sit out in the ruins where Revenants roam. Each trip asks you to decide what to carry, what is worth the heat and ammunition, and what to bring back so the next run is easier.
For anyone trying the demo, the useful question is whether an upgrade solves an immediate survival problem or just extends a crafting list. The store description cannot answer that on its own, but the loop between scavenging, fuel, and train construction is the part worth testing.
Co-op and Early Access
Steam lists single-player and online co-op, and FakeFish’s demo announcement confirms solo play or co-op with up to four players. Groups can split engine management, scavenging, and defense, though only hands-on time will show whether the roles stay engaging. The store page sets Early Access for Q4 2026 with no exact day yet, and the developer says demo feedback will guide polish ahead of that launch.
Frostrail is free to try on Steam through October 26.
